On A Sunny Day

Shocked, taken back, surprised or amazed would be the words I would use to explain what happened last week.  I was invited to speak to a church group about the work in Indonesia.  It was a beautiful day and the salmon were in the Kenai River. There were two very attractive reasons to enjoy the rare combination of this Alaskan summer instead of going to a church meeting. The crowd was smaller than normal but it was a sweet time to be together in worship.

It wasn’t what I said but what happened after the service that brought in the grace factor. A husband and wife began to speak to me–it wasn’t too far into the conversation that we realized we were possibly first or second cousins. We came from the same town and had the same last name. I did not know my fathers side of the family  because of a mountain of reasons that alienated two sides of our family. But now there was an awesome couple before me and there was a likelihood I have just met my cousin.

It is only by God’s grace that on  sunny Sunday two blood relatives met in a surprising way.
