Yulce's Story

Update on Yulce and two other children
March 1, 2004

A Doctor examined Yulce and two other children and believes the child with the broken leg bone protruding through his skin and the child with the severe cleft pallet can be treated in Indonesia.

Operation Blessing will pay for 100% of their medical and travel. That is great news and Esther Scarborough, IFC medical director, is relieved and rejoicing because these children will get help.

After the examination of Yulce the Doctor believed her injuries are so serious that they need expert care that cannot be given in Indonesia and that she needs to come to the U.S.. This means a lot of big changes in the future of Yulce and her family. We have received positive initial responses from burn centers and want you to continue to pray for these doors to open.

Please pray for:

1) Strength and bravery by Yulce and her family as they give consent to come to the U.S. for long term treatment. The next step is preparing them for many changes ahead for them.

2)Successful acquisition of passports for Yulce and her mother.

3) One year visas for both of them. I have spoken to our U.S. Senator who was positive about helping us get these visas.

4) Travel arrangements to the U.S. This is a long and tiring flight.

5) Translators for them while she is in care.

6) Food and lodging (host family) for them while she is in care.

7) All needed surgeries and therapy. Pray for the medical team that will guide her care. Pray that all of the costs will be donated.

8) IFC staff, as we advocate and raise funds to get her the medical help she needs to have the normal life of an Indonesian child. We need wisdom and God's continued favor. God has shown His mercies on her, now we need provision for her and our regular work among the others who need help in North Maluku.
