Grateful

Grateful is too small a word to express how I feel about the landmarks of this year.

  • The children in our care are at the top of my list. I have watched many of them grow up into talented and caring individuals. Their laughter and hugs are worth more than pure gold to me.
  • The staff of IFC/Hohidiai are a treasure–beginning with our leaders. Peter and Esther Scarborough have served faithfully over the last 12 years. They are close friends and co-founders in this work. They are a perfect examples of living for others.
  • The Indonesian leaders are full of wisdom and walk in humility.
  • The big step of purchasing of land for a future elementary school.
  • Those who continue to support the work of IFC/Hohidiai with prayers and support.
  • Dr. Leo and Dr. Deni coming to serve at the medical base.
  • The safe birth of Ezra to Dr. Naomi and Steve.
  • The construction of the new Trauma Center and Baasee Cho House.
  • Amazing volunteers who come to give their gifts and talents.  I get to travel with the most devoted and selfless people on this planet and it is an honor to stand alongside them.
  • A useable internet connection is a blessing.
  • The successful surgery for Agri and Wawan’s son, Daniel, who had a serious head injury.
  • Thousands of the poor came to our clinic or hospital and received help for their sickness or injury.
  • To listen to Winda as she shares her stories with our volunteers.
  • Our partners are the best–many have supported our work for many years.  I have met many of them this year.
  • Playing UNO with Henrik, a leper, is a real highlight. He is a rejected man who is now a close part of our family.
  • I am grateful for good health for my wife and I. We are very close to our grown children and cherish every minute we have with our daughter and son.

This list could be much longer. I am very thankful for the honor to serve the poorest-of-the-poor in a remote area of this planet.
