Standing together
Many have heard about the tragic tsunami, earthquake and volcano in the Central Sulawesi region and specifically the city of Palu. I have been to Palu and have good memories of the people I met. The loss of life is over 1,400 and climbing and thousand more injured. There are heart wrenching photos and stories of the wreckage due to the 20 foot high wave that wrought the destruction.
Our base is a long way from the destruction in Palu and we are 15 miles from the ocean on a high plateau on the Island of Halmahera. While we are not near the destruction we are close to those who are suffering. IFC/Hohidiai has sent medical teams to help in this crisis. Our medical staff are well trained and are bi-lingual. They will be a great asset to international teams who are coming.
I cannot overstate the need to pray for those in Palu and specifically those who have lost loved ones or homes. This is a time when we need to stand with them.
